I'm ultimately running to defeat the status quo and to show young people and first-time voters that their voices matter. This will be the first municipal election where convicted felons and parolees can now vote since the Governor signed legislation allowing returning citizens to vote. All politics is local so what better way than starting at the grassroots level?

My background of being an everyday person makes me unique. I'm born and raised in Trenton. I'm a Black Latino who happens to be a disabled veteran and LGBTQ. Noone would've thought in a million years that someone in my shoes would be running for office. I used to go from couch to couch and walk these same streets that I'm not advocating and registering people to vote on.

It's a nonpartisan election in a very partisan town. I'm a registered Democrat whos VERY progressive. Even though NJ's a blue state, I consider it "1990's blue". We're not as progressive as we should be and even have arguably the most segregated school districts in the US.

I'm a registered Democrat. In addition to being on the ballot for City Council this fall, I'm also being considered for County Committee for the local Democratic Party.

My biggest challenges is navigating the local turmoil and figuring out which fights are worth my time and effort. Something that I had to learn early on was that You don't have to show up to every fight that you're invited to and I also had to learn the difference between being an activist and a politician. They have some overlap but, overall.. I had to realize that everything cant be my fight.

I know I'll win. I'm running for a vote-for 3-seat. We don't get a runoff election either. I either win this time or I wait for another 4 years to run again. The city gets to vote for 3 at-large candidates and each of our four wards gets to vote for one candidate.

My corse supporters and the local millenials and politicos throughout New Jersey. Some of my closest friends are Chiefs of Staffs to State Senators and legislators but, making the move into the scene is still difficult. My family has been my rock. My mom and Aunt Rita are everything and help out with just about every fundraiser.

My husband Tom is my campaign chair. My friend Charlene is Community Engagement Director and Terry West is my field Director. Terry was also the Campaign Manager for the current North Ward Councilwoman.

Brandy is my best friend. I consider her an unofficial advisor. She's a cool millennial and African American Trans woman who works at Meryl Lynch and is new to the LGBTQ political space but still very well connected. Brandy is also a life coach/medium.
