County Commissioner District 3, Maryland

I am running for County Commissioner in District 3 to raise the standard of living for all Charles County residents. Waldorf, the largest city in the county and the fourth largest city in the state of Maryland, is long overdue for the major investments our residents deserve. Throughout my life as a Waldorf resident I have seen the same challenges that we faced when I was in Elementary School still challenging us today. We do not have the modern infrastructure that you would expect a city of our population to have. We do not have a hospital, recreational facilities, any type of rent stabilization, we lack high-paying jobs, and a diverse tax base. That is why I am running to bring a public hospital to Waldorf, institute a countywide rent stabilization program, build an indoor/outdoor sports complex in the city, create youth work programs, and more.

My top issues are healthcare, housing, recreation, and youth services. Our county has over 160,000 residents but only have one hospital, located in a town that is around a 30 minute drive from the largest city in the county, Waldorf. We have residents who work full time in the county but live in houseless encampments, due to the unjustifiably high rent and housing cost. Our county does not have adequate indoor or outdoor recreational facilities, such as public basketball and tennis courts, pools, or soccer and track fields. We also need to create programs for youth development, such as paid summer internships and youth job programs.

What makes me unique is that I have been a community activist for years and have dedicated myself to bringing community members into the political area to fight for policies and initiatives to help county residents. During the height of the eviction crisis myself and other activists held tennant canvasses, where we went to apartment complexes to give tenants federal ERAP applications, contact information for free legal aid, and information on tenants rights in regards to eviction. This type of community activism separates me from other candidates in Charles County, because it shows my dedication to work on behalf of the people.

Yes I am filed as a Democrat. Our county is majority Democrat so whoever wins the primary wins the general election.

I am a Democrat. I describe myself as a progressive democrat.

I would say the continuation of building name recognition. Although I am facing this challenge by having daily canvasses, talking to residents, doing local interviews and podcasts, and putting up yard and street signs.

I believe I will win, because we are meeting residents where they are and having real platform policies that raise the standard of living for Charles County residents. Over the past months residents and especially other young people are excited to seeing someone like them running and galvanizing people to be to be involved in the political process.

My core staff include Cristian, my campaign manager, Shawna Marks, my deputy campaign manager, Jasmine Carter-Plank, my treasurer, and Pascale Small, my communications director.

The four of them have been with me since the start of this campaign. I met Cristian, Shawna, and Pascale, through my work as a local activist. And Jasmine and myself have been long time friends, like family, since middle school.

I have many close friends who I met while attending college, at the Culinary Institute of Virginia. As well as fellow activist I have met through my work with Our Revolution Maryland and Charles County activism.

We have received endorsements and support from Progressive Maryland, Run For Something, and Working Families Party.
